Nature Trial - Singapore

Updated: Apr 18, 2020

Not just the hustle and bustle of a modern world , but Singapore has a lot of greenery to offer !

Gardens by The Bay : - Nearest MRT - Marina Bay

Once you enter this place , you feel like you have been transferred from a city of Skyscrapers into lush green forest !!!

Unimaginably contradicting experience to what you would have expected !!! Living up to the words said in the Singapore tourism add "This is where we live among trees and carve them out of metal and make them electric !!" this is a world of plants and super trees made out of metal and concrete.

The entry to the garden is free of cost , but there are two domes - Flower dome and Cloud Forest which would cost around 32$ per person and extra 3$ if you opt for tram ride to reach here. We would highly recommend a visit to the Domes , its really an amazing experience.

You would also be charged to walk around on the OCBC sky way connecting the super trees

or dine on top of the super trees.

You can pick up the tickets at the entrance , its definitely worth visiting the domes or you can walk around the gardens by the bay for free.

Flower Dome - Where the Wonder Blooms

Flower dome houses 30000 varieties of plants from around the world. A perpetual spring , the flowers and the baobabs !! definitely an eye candy. The green houses are the largest of its kind in the whole world and you will be amazed how you can travel around the world as you walk through the gardens dedicated for different country's plants and how all these come together under a single roof !!!

Flower Dome

Cloud Forest - Tropical Highlands

We felt this was the best out of both the domes , well its a personal choice.

A tropical montane housing many ferns pitchers orchids. As you enter this place you will be transferred into a whole new tropical world with a man made mountain of 6 stories high housing moist dense tropical trees and plants. Adding to the magic of the highlands , is the highest man made waterfall.

The surreal misting and the cloud walk converts the tropical wonderland into a fantasy fairy land with only minus the fairies :)

Check the misting time to experience the domes beauty to the fullest.

The domes might need an hour or two.

Like in Marina Bay Sands there is a light show which happens here at 7.45pm and 8.45pm every night and is free of cost.

Cloud Forest

Fort Canning Hill : - Closest MRT - Clark quay

If you are a nature person or enjoy trekking , you can go for a small trek up the "Fort Canning hill" which is right across the road from the Clark quay and beside the OHSP.

One can enjoy a trek here at "Fort Canning Hill" or "Bukit Larangan" - "The forbidden hill"

and unwind the long history of the hill at every turn !!

the canons ,the Rafles House , a Light House , a Spice Garden and many more await you on this trial.

Singapore Botanical Garden :- Closest MRT - Botanical Garden MRT station

An amazing place to slow down , relax , walk around and be one with the nature. The locals seemed to enjoy this place as much as the tourists did. Many locals seemed to be picnicking with family , doing Yoga beside the Swan lake , kids playing around at the Jacob Ballas Garden.

Swan Lake @ Botanical Garden

Huge acres of land , housing varieties of trees , flora and fauna. Swan lake is a great place to enjoy the breeze , views and unwind peacefully. The Botanical Garden houses different gardens like the Ginger garden , healing garden , Orchid Garden , etc. Its definitely not possible to cover the entire place in a day but you can experience a part of it.

Botanical Garden

My personal favorite here was the interactive displays at the "Center of Ethnobotany" , the paintings and freestanding sculptures added around the Garden adding more beauty and character to the already beautiful place.

Paintings @ Ethnobotany Garden

The entry to Garden is free , only entry to the Orchid Garden costs around 5$.

Check out Botanical Garden for more info.

Singapore Zoo :-

This is the best place to spend a day if you have kids , whether kids or not , this sure is a place to have fun with the parks and safari's Jurong Bird Park , River Safari , Night Safari.

Given our limited time in Singapore , we decided to go for the Night Safari , as its a unique experience which is not available everywhere to experience the wild in the night. We don't regret this choice , it was an amazing experience. First the Night Safari started with the Tram ride where we are offered a guided tour around the park post which we are free to pick one or many of the walking trials and experience the wild by ourselves. Its a unique experience which feels like we are left in the middle of the jungle to walk around but yet its a protected environment.

After all this "Creatures of the Night show" is like the cherry on top of the cake !!!

Check out Night Safari for more info. They have shuttles leaving to nearest Bus station or the train station , to know more about how to get here check out How to get to Singapore Zoo.

To plan your visit and know more about the things you can do at the Zoo check out Singapore Zoo.
